Tribute to the USS Rigel AF-58

My dad, Clarence L. Verble, was a crewmember of the Rigel. As with all old sailors he wanted a chance to walk the decks one last time. Unfortunately, Uncle Sam's bureaucrats wouldn’t let him get to close while it was laid up in the JRRF. In July the Rigel was sold to a scrapping company called All Star Metals in Brownsville, TX. When the ship was towed to Brownsville he was able to get aboard one last time thanks to the kind owner of All Star Metals. Below are pictures he took during his visit. Far as we know, he's the last of the ship’s crew to walk the decks.
